During last season’s RHOC reunion Vicki Gunvalson declared “my love tank is full.” This season we were introduced to the guy who revs her engine, Brooks Ayers. There’s been a lot of talk about this Southern gentleman amongst The Housewives and fans alike. In this exclusive TBB interview we get to learn a little more about the man behind Vicki’s mink coat.
TBB: Hello Brooks, originally you are from Mississippi, how does life in the OC compare to the South?
BA: The weather is the big difference… No humidity here and it rarely rains. Temps range from the 60’s to the high 80’s here…wonderful! In Mississippi, a lot of humidity and have all four seasons.
TBB: I read you met Vicki in 2007 at a conference and were friends for a long time before you began dating. Did you watch The Real Housewives of Orange County during that time?
BA: No, I know now that they were just in Season 2.
TBB: When you began dating Vicki, did you readily agree to be on the show, or did it take some convincing?
BA: It took some convincing. However, we wanted to show that she was dating me and that we are very happy.
TBB: Based on events from past seasons, some of the women have attacked your character in an attempt to get back at Vicki. What really happened in your past that you’d like people to better understand?
BA: First, let me say that we all have a past and I am no exception. I have made some interesting decisions in my life and I can’t do anything about that now. Having said that, I have learned from my past and have grown a lot through the process. Second, the only difference in me and everyone else is that my past is “aired” in the public eye and the editing by Bravo creates the drama for the show. One only sees the drama and not the buildup to or the makeup parts.
TBB: It’s always difficult for children,no matter their age, to accept a new love interest in their parents’ lives. How is your relationship with Briana and Michael now?
BA: Better every day that we see each other, which isn’t often. We are all busy with our lives. They are wonderful kids.
TBB: Have your own children met Vicki?
BA: My oldest son, Logan, has met Vicki. We went to visit him at Ole Miss last fall. He is a senior majoring in Finance.
TBB: What would you like to say to people, like Tamra, who fear you don’t have Vicki’s best interests at heart?
BA: We are all adults not children. Vicki knows what she wants out of life and she has made it clear that she won’t settle in any aspect of it. So, if Vicki and I are happy…let us be happy. It is very interesting that we spent a lot of time with Eddie and Tamra prior to filming. We traveled together to Cabo and double dated a lot. Not one time did Tamra ever have a problem with me until the show began to air. This makes me sad because we actually miss spending time with them.
TBB: By now we all know you have great taste in coats. Was it really cold enough for fur the night of Heather Dubrow’s party?
BA: Yes, it was chilly at that time of the night. Didn’t you notice the heaters placed outside?
TBB: Now that you are living in the OC are you working there too?
BA: I am VP Development for WFJ & Associates, a healthcare consulting firm based in Richmond, VA. I travel extensively with my job and obviously can do business remotely via computers and cellphones.
TBB: Thank you for talking with me today. Is there anything else you would like people to know about you?
BA: Just realize that the show is built around creating drama therefore may not be completely showing the entire story. Thanks for the opportunity to respond!
