An Interview with Kristen Moss of Reality Wanted- An Awards Show for Reality TV!

imageActors and musicians have a ton of them. Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, SAG, People’s Choice, Golden Globe, Billboard… The list is endless, but what about those who entertain us by simply letting us into their everyday lives? The reality television star, producer, and crew has played the role of unsung hero in the entertainment industry for quite a while. Reality Wanted has been working feverishly for months to change that. We spoke to Executive Producer, Kristen Moss, about the first ever awards show for those who have given up their privacy, risked their safety, and often tarnished their dignity all for the sake of showing us that sometimes art doesn’t have to imitate life, but can be life itself!

How long has it taken to make Reality Wanted a reality?

Our team has been working on the awards only since October 2012. We have an amazing team of people who have the eye on the prize, and we wanted to make sure that the first annual event really set the bar for the years to come. With less than two months left, we are feeling the pressure, but everyday brings new excitement!

Who are some of the people already involved?

Everyone involved in the project works or has worked in the reality TV industry. Andrew Ward and myself are the Executive Producers of the project. After meeting each other just last year, Andrew and I started a very successful “social group” for reality TV professionals. Our partnership just worked and we decided to try our hands in something more challenging. After teaming up with Mark Yawitz from RealityWanted.com, the idea of reality TV awards was a possibility so we reached out to some of our friends in the industry. We knew we would need them to help us out on the long journey ahead. Our social group still meets every other month at The Parlor in Hollywood and the members of that group have formed the “academy” voters for the awards! Check out www.WeWorkInRealityTV.com for more information on them!

After deciding to take on the project of the awards, we knew we needed a strong, diverse team. Megan Firestone brings new energy and creativity to our marketing. Her strengths are her imagination and perseverance, which stem from her producing background. Kim Roos is our go getter. I swear, we can ask her to get us to the moon and she will find a way to make it happen! John Barra is the newest addition to our team as he just recently moved out to Los Angeles from New Jersey. Since John has joined us, we have just been breaking down the boundaries that were previously set before. The energy that John puts out will absolutely make him successful in the city of Los Angeles!

We also have a team dedicated to talent and sponsorship outreach. We wouldn’t be where we are now, without the collaboration of what we call the “DREAM TEAM”!

What are some of the categories you will be presenting awards for?

Because of the nature of the awards, we are excited to recognize the talent on screen and also the production teams behind the scenes. We know that personalities are strong in reality television and so we decided to be creative with the “personality based” awards. “Biggest Villain” should be an interesting category to award the night-of!

For the production-based awards, we have “best new show” which is an award the production companies will be proud to win! “Bad Ass Crew” also gives the public, who will start voting March 4th, the ability to vote on some of the hardest working camera teams reality TV has! You watch a show like Deadliest Catch and maybe forget that there is also a camera crew on board capturing all the scenes that make that show so intriguing to the viewer!

Will this be an annual event?

We are hoping to make the RealityWanted Awards a mainstay on the awards circuit. Reality TV isn’t going anywhere, and new stars are born every year thanks to reality television. We know this concept will work and we are here to stay!
