On Thursday July 11th reality stars from several networks gathered in New York City’s Meatpacking District to honor Sonja Morgan for “accomplishments and contributions in the field of media, arts, entertainment, business, and philanthropy.” Surrounded by her Real Housewives of New York City co-stars, Sonja accepted a NY State citation which was presented by The Fabulous Beekman Boys.
Morgan showed off her svelte figure in a sleek long black Lorena Sarbu gown with see through lace detailing, and a neat updo. Watching her acceptance speech were Aviva Drescher, Heather Thomson, LuAnn De Lesseps, and RHONY season sidekick Ramona Singer. Also in attendance, and sitting in the ladies’ exclusive booth, was Harry Dubin, Aviva’s ex-husband who is a long time friend of Morgan’s.
Those who watched Season 5 know that Dubin has also been romantically linked to Sonja and LuAnn. It will be interesting to see his role in the show for season 6 as we previously spotted him hanging with the cast in the Hamptons. Dubin and Aviva have one son together.
The red carpet event was organized by celebrity publicists The Von Boozier Twins and held at the trendy Griffin on Ganesvoort Street. Stars from VH1’s Love and Hip Hop and NUVOtv’s Curvy Girls were also spotted as well as our fave Millionaire Matchmaker client and Hello Kitty fanatic Robin Kassner.
One thing was clear, there may have been a lot of fabulous people, but Sonja was definitely the star of the evening. Which makes us wonder how self proclaimed star of RHONY, Ramona Singer felt. In response to Ramona’s “star”status Sonja says “It’s an ensemble cast we are all stars in our own right or we wouldn’t be on this show. Noone’s the star on the show. At one point I was the breakout hit, I was the fan favorite, I don’t walk around telling anyone I’m the star of the show…I have to have humility because you saw some of my co-stars were axed just like that. Three stars of the show…You could be cut like that. Everyone is replaceable.”
