Another day, another Real Housewives court case. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Apollo Nida, husband of The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks, plead guilty to mail, wire and bank fraud charges on Tuesday.
According to court records obtained by Radar Online, Nida allegedly created companies “purporting to be collection agencies,” the documents read, “in order to obtain access to the personal [information] of others,” and then used that information to take out loans and purchase checks. Apollo’s offences could land him behind bars for up to 30 years.
Apollo Nida’s co-conspirator, Gayla St. Julien, plead guilty to conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud and aggravated identity theft late last month. Gayla’s plea resulted in a 61-month prison sentence.
Apollo and Gayla worked together from 2009 until 2013. The pair allegedly laundered close to $3 million together through fraudulent bank accounts and companies.
“I take full responsibility for my actions,” Apollo said in court. “It was a dumb situation I put myself in.” The Atlanta Journal Constitution revealed that the pressure to maintain a celebrity lifestyle lead him to the offences. “I got sucked in and engulfed and lost sight of things,” he said.
According to TMZ, part of Apollo’s plea deal with federal authorities consists of agreeing to act in an “undercover investigative capacity,” which entails recording any conversations that he may have with other criminal suspects.
Viewers of The Real Housewives of Atlanta are well aware that this is not Apollo’s first criminal offense. He spent five years in slammer before marrying Phaedra in 2009. Although Phaedra has provided legal representation for Apollo in the past, she will not be his attorney for this case.
Phaedra is expected to return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta next season. We will most likely witness this courtroom drama unfold as filming for season seven is set to begin soon. Apollo is scheduled to be sentenced on July 8th, the same day The Real Housewives of New Jersey Stars Teresa and Joe Giudice will be sentenced after pleading guilty to numerous counts of mail, wire, bank and bankruptcy fraud in March.
Speaking of Teresa and Joe, the couple have been slapped with yet another lawsuit—this time for mortgage fraud. The lawsuit was filed against the couple by their former business partner, Joseph Mastropole.
Teresa; however, is now off the hook after a New Jersey judge dismissed her as a defendant in the lawsuit.
“This is a major victory for Joe and Teresa as much has been said that’s just plain wrong. This just shows how complex the truth and this case really are,” Wendy Feldman, Teresa and Joe’s legal crisis manager and sentencing expert, told E! News. “When clients have to stand by and remain silent to allow the process it’s very hard.”
“Small public victories like this are very meaningful especially when I have a case that’s so unique and high profile. As we inch towards sentencing the reality of reality will become more clear. But never forget these are real people who are caught in the system. I applaud Joe and Teresa for continuing to handle this case with dignity and respect as we keep our faith in our justice system.”
The lawsuit alleges that Joe forged Mastropole’s signature on mortgage documents for an apartment building they owned together. Joe Mastropole’s name was taken off the mortgage documents when Joe Giudice refinanced the property. According to the lawsuit, Joe Giudice didn’t give Joe Mastropole the $260,000 that he owed his partner.
The court also tossed a majority of Mastropole’s case against Joe; however, the judge ruled Joe could still be facing jail time for punitive damages.
Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Lisa Wu will be returning to reality television! According to a TV ONE press release, Lisa is set to star in a new series entitled Hollywood Divas. The show will follows actresses Elise Neal, Golden Brooks, Paula Jai Parker, Countess Vaughn, and Lisa Wu as they navigate life attempting to stay relevant in the entertainment industry.
Since her departure from The RHOA, Lisa split from her husband Ed Hartwell and began appearing in small acting roles. Lisa recently finished shooting the film First Impression and is currently starring in Atlanta Undercover.
In addition to acting, Lisa still runs her real estate firm, Hartwell & Associates, operates the Wu Girls jewelry line, and manages a baby clothing line, Hart 2 Hart Baby. Kandi Burruss’ husband Todd Tucker will be a producer on the new show.
Someone should inform Ramona Singer that wine tossing is not an actual sport. After Ramona angrily hurled a glass of wine at Kristen Taekman on last week’s episode of The Real Housewives of New York, the newest cast member was left with a bloody lip.
While vacationing at Heather Thomson’s home in the Berkshires, Ramona, Carole Radziwill, and Sonja Morgan were drinking wine while canoeing in a river. Kristen and Heather, who were swimming in the lake, approached the canoe and splashed the other women. While Kristen and Heather splashed the others in a humorous manner, Ramona did not think it was funny.
“You know what Kristen? You’re two for two now. You’re a f—ing bitch,” Ramona said. Ramona then tossed her wine at Kristen and then threw her glass.
“IT IS NOT OK TO THROW A GLASS AT ANYONE!!! SHE DREW BLOOD, MY BLOOD FOR GOD’S SAKE!!! I didn’t even realize that I was bleeding until Carole said something and then I could taste it running into my mouth,” Kristen wrote in her Bravo blog. “She [Ramona] needs some serious anger management.”
