The Survivor-An Interview with Amber Marchese

imageSpeaking to The Real Housewives is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. This is truly the case when chatting with Real Housewives of New JerseyAmber Marchese. On the show she comes across intense, a fact that she will openly admit to, but over an iPhone she’s quite calm. She describes herself as laid back, a quality she regrets we didn’t see much of on her rookie season. Currently enjoying the comfort of what she calls her own little world, she can easily reflect on the ups and downs of Real Housewife-hood, with a level head. However, don’t mess with her husband, or those claws will still find their way to the surface…

TBB: Congratulations on surviving your first season of Housewives. How did you get involved with the show?

AM: Thank you I thought you were going to say breast cancer (laughs).

TBB: We will definitely talk about that later on!

AM: I was taking acting lessons and auditioning so my name was out there a lot and (Bravo) caught wind of me. They started asking me questions and asking about my life. Then they found out I was friends with Melissa (Gorga) and thought that was an intriguing fact, even though we were friends in our twenties.

TBB: What was her initial reaction when she heard she was going to be working with you?

AM: She texted me and said, “Congrats and welcome to the show!” I thought she was really happy, but as time went on I felt like she didn’t stand by my side in the way a good friend should have.

TBB: I’m assuming, since you knew Melissa, you had been a viewer of the show. What was your biggest worry coming into it?

AM: Actually I was not a viewer. I would watch it once in a while since seeing Melissa on there. I talked to her right before she was going on and she asked me if she should be going on and I actually told her not to do it! Now, here I am five years later and I’m eating my words. My biggest worry was how much time it was going to take me away from my children. It was a pleasant surprise that it didn’t really take me away from them at all. We filmed a lot together as a family and most of my interviews were in the house while my kids played upstairs. It’s truly a dream job for moms. Of course, my life is different and (the show) pulled me away sometimes, but I also have a very supportive husband who is an active father. We really are a team. Not to toot my own horn, but I am so good at being a mom and I devote my every waking moment to these kids that even with the show filming, I didn’t skip a beat!

TBB: What was your most cringe worthy moment that made the final cut?

AM: I think there was a lot of them, but the one that stands out is when I cried on the phone with Teresa (Giudice). There was so much behind that phone call. I was just getting my news about the 5 year (breast cancer survival) mark not going so well and there I was getting on the phone after I’d just heard someone’s bad news and I lost it. I was really hoping they wouldn’t include that one. Also when I was drunk in Florida and I smoked that cigarette. I wish they hadn’t shown that, but hey, I’m not going to beat myself up over having a brief lapse of judgement.

TBB: Was there anything you filmed that didn’t make it to TV that you wish had?

AM: More of my family, especially my Christmas. They showed everybody else’s Christmases but decided not to put my family’s Christmas on there, which I don’t know why. Also more of the tenderness of my husband (Jim Marchese) and how he was so super kind to Dina (Manzo) even after she was acting like a big baby because he said, “Does anybody here have an IQ  above 12?” after I was attacked at our best friend’s party. My husband actually took her out to dinner to apologize. He even gave her ideas for the Project Ladybug event that they filmed for the finale. He was nothing but kind to her, nothing but kind to all of the ladies, yet they decided to go after him and they deserved what they got!

TBB: Jim was quite the controversial personality on RHONJ. What are your thoughts about his on camera and online behavior?

AM: I think he gives out exactly what he needs to give out. He’s getting attacked all the time and there’s no reason for him to be called all the names he’s been called. (His) best friend (Bobby Ciasulli) gutted him! Bobby caused all the trouble and I think (Jim) did everything he should be doing. When people are calling him names he has a right to defend himself. It took a lot for him to get to the point he got with Joe (Gorga). Again, I had just been attacked and he was asking him about why we didn’t go bowling. My husband is so well respected in his position (at work) and he’s such a kind and generous man. He’s got a huge heart and employs many people who all adore him.

TBB: You are a proud breast cancer survivor. What is it that you hope having been on this show will accomplish for others with this disease?

AM: What I’ve seen so far since the end of the show has been wonderful. People have emailed me, direct messaged me, even wrote me letters saying they are stronger because they saw what I went through. Some said they had mammograms and got lumps checked out after seeing me and caught (cancer) in time. (Housewives) was a hard show to be on, but that was my purpose for being on the show.

TBB: Complete this sentence … “I used to think blank about reality television, but now I think blank“…

AM: I used to think it was easy to be on reality TV, but now I realize it is very, very difficult. I didn’t realize how cutthroat it is. The egos on the show are always competing. There are people out for blood and they will do whatever it takes to make it. It doesn’t matter who they hurt or not hurt. I just would never do that to anybody. I would never hurt another person, especially over a show.

TBB: Are you open to being on another season?

AM: I’m a very simple creature, if the money’s right then of course. If it makes sense for my family and it pays for my kids’ college tuition, then why not? It was fun. I enjoyed the ride. There were some good points and some bad points, like any job.

TBB: The holidays are right around the corner, how will the Marchese family celebrate?

AM: The Marchese family always takes a trip every single year. This year we’re going to Hershey Park (PA). I love to create that magical Christmas for my kids…and of course there will be lots of family and food!

TBB: Is there anything else you would like the fans to know?

AM: I was just telling Jim that I feel so far removed from the show at this point because it’s been so long since I filmed, so it’s hard to imagine what I was feeling at the time. I felt like I stood my ground enough, that I didn’t buckle under pressure, however, on an everyday basis I’m pretty laid back and I don’t really feel like viewers saw that side of me. Of course I get angry and sad sometimes, but if you film only those points in my life than of course I’m going to seem intense. I really just love my friends and family and shutting the world out and staying within my family, my little world.

Reality Roundup

Can you believe it’s Sunday again? I feel like I was just here yesterday, maybe because there’s so much news that happened over the past week, the time has flown! Let’s start not with Housewives, but with house pimps…are Ryan Serhant and Fredrik Eklund working on a million dollar friendship? The Million Dollar Listing New York stars and rivals have been spending much more time together. The pair, along with their siginificant others, have been hitting the event circuit and posting pictures to their Instagram accounts.

The agents are currently filming their fourth season along with Luis Ortiz. Serhant, who mugged with Ortiz just the other night in a photo he captioned, “I’m making this photo black and white because it’s classic. #lastnight #neverforget #getready #SEASON4 ,” has more than just the new season to celebrate. He recently made his movie debut. Last week he traveled to Toronto for the premiere of While We’re Young, a film starring Ben Stiller. Rumor has it that Ryan, who used to star on As The World Turns, is the movie’s runaway star, but he’s not ready to leave real estate.

Perhaps Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa and Joe Giudice should give Ryan a call. The couple, who await sentencing for multiple counts of financial fraud, have reportedly put their sprawling Towaco New Jersey mansion on the market. Earlier this week TMZ broke the news that the property has been listed for $3.99M . That’s a lot of change! I’m wondering if the new owner gets to keep the chickens.

If social climbing were a sport Nene Leakes would be wearing gold. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star was in New York for NYFW last week hanging out with Naomi Campbell and Diddy. Never modest, the soon to be Broadway star, took to social media to brag about it:

“About last night! So my girl @iamnaomicampbell calls me up & say ‘let’s hit the town darling’ (in my Naomi voice LOL) she scoops me up from my hotel and the rest is history! No I think the rest is a movie LOL! Love her. This is how you do fashion week #thecatsmeow.”

If anyone can get away with name dropping it’s Nene, or can she? What do you think?

While Nene is hanging out with A-listers, one of her Atlanta co-stars is hanging out with the O-list, as in offenders. Apollo Nida reported to serve his jail sentence on Thursday according to TMZ. Wednesday the estranged husband of Housewife Phaedra Parks failed to turn himself in and reportedly had a “meltdown” at the home he still shares with Parks. Allegedly the couple fought over finances.

On Thursday Nida took to Twitter and Instagram to thank those who have supported him. Parks’ publicist took to the media outlets to say, “This situation has put a tremendous strain on Phaedra and her family, and she is working hard to bring back a sense of normalcy to everyone’s lives.”

Last week we reported the speculation that actress-singer Demetria McKinney (Devious Maids, Tyler Perry’s House of Pain) had joined the cast of RHOA, but in an interview with Enstarz.com McKinney neither confirms or denies the rumors. Stating that she has “a lot of friends on that franchise”, she was elusive as to why she’s been seen partying with the HW‘s, specifically on what was a recent cast trip to Puerto Rico.

Last but not least, Victoria Gotti, mob daughter and now RHONJ pot-stirrer, has denied some threatening tweets being aimed at Amber Marchese. In a statement to her fans Gotti made it clear that the threatening posts were not aimed at Amber, though she had previously been angry with her. New speculation is that the threats could be aimed at Rino and Teresa Aprea. The couple has accused Gotti of fame seeking by bringing to the show a very scandalous story about  Rino Aprea having an affair with Teresa’s mother many years ago. Rino, Teresa, and twin sister Nicole Napolitano vehemently deny the rumor.

Do you believe Victoria’s story?

Start stirring your gravy and fryin’ your meatballs… The Real Housewives of New Jersey are back! Bravo has announced that the sixth season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey will premiere on Sunday, July 13th.

Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga are the only Housewives returning this season. In addition, RHONJ alum, Dina Manzo will be re-joining the cast.

“Well I guess the (hairless) cats out of the bag,” Dina tweeted when filming started. “Yes I’m back. Unlike the past this time it felt ‘right’ … See you on Bravo my friends.”

Dina’s sister-in-law Jacqueline Laurita, who has starred on the show since it’s inception, will not be part of the season six cast. Caroline Manzo has also departed from the series. Caroline’s upcoming spinoff pilot, Manzo’d With Children, was recently picked up for season one and, according to her Twitter will air in fall 2014. We caught up with Caroline at a recent event! Find out what she had to say about Manzo’d with Children and her departure form The Real Housewives of New Jersey here!

Although Kathy Wakile is no longer part of the cast, she and her sister Rosie will be making an appearance or two in the upcoming season, Melissa Gorga revealed during an appearance at the Tampa Home and Garden Show last week. When we recently saw the sisters, they too confirmed their involvment on the show.

Three new Housewives will be joining the cast this season! Amber Marchese and identical twins Teresa Aprea and Nicole Mauriello are sure to fuel some great drama this season. Amber, a breast cancer survivor, is a New Jersey native with a no-nonsense attitude. Teresa Aprea, and her husband, Rino, are the owners of famous restaurants, Angelo’s of Mulberry Street in Little Italy, and Ponte Vecchio in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She and her husband have an 18-year-old son, Giovanni. Nicole Mauriello is a two-time divorcee (Hey, at least that’s better than 19 engagements…), a fashionista and a mother to two teenage boys, Joey, 14, and Anthony, 16.

Teresa and Joe Giudice’s legal drama will be a major story this season. After pleading guilty to multiple fraud and tax evasion charges, Teresa and Joe are currently awaiting their sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for July 8th.

“Obviously, Teresa is going to be a key character in the upcoming season, and Bravo wants to maximize her storyline,” an insider revealed to Radar Online last month.

Viewers can also expect some catfights, yelling, and stripping & cheating allegations. Oh yes, more stripping & cheating allegations!

Bravo told Us Weekly that during the episode, the husbands will participate in a Guy’s Night Out and bond over drinks and table talk. The men will be “keeping it real” on everything from who really wears the pants in their relationships to how hard it is to please their leading ladies.

Pink slip or just no trip? Fans of The Real Housewives of New York City have been questioning the absence of Aviva Drescher from the show after her dialogue was erased from the opening credits.

TheHollywoodGossip reported the mother of four was being “disciplined by producers with a forced three-episode hiatus,” while other reports suggest Aviva’s disappearance is simply a publicity stunt to drum up interest in the ratings starved show.

Aviva broke her silence regarding the matter, telling Radar “I wasn’t (disciplined) … back on in two weeks,” adding that she did not want to go on the Berkshire trip due to health concerns involving her prosthetic leg and asthma.

However, Radar has learned that these recent episodes are not the only ones Aviva will be cut from this season.

“Aviva has had a really bad time this season,” a source revealed. “Because she refused to go on two separate trips with the rest of the women the producers are fuming at her and they’re taking her out of the show as punishment.”

“Aviva also refused to go to Montana with the women, so she won’t be in those upcoming episodes either and they’re planning to do the same thing with the opening credits – take her out of them,” the insider continued. “No one would want her to risk her health or anything if that’s the reason she claimed was why she didn’t go, but the producers are fed up with her now.”

Aviva’s frequent absences may lead to a major cast change. “Aviva might get axed from the show at the end of the season,” the source said. “Her storyline about Bookgate was dumb and then not being part of the rest of the show is making her more difficult so the producers are seriously considering firing her at the end of the season.”

We reached out to Aviva when the first Aviva Free episode aired two weeks ago, but she was unresponsive.
